This has absolutely nothing to do with the game. Just some internet randomness at its finest. When you’re online, you pretty much have to start from scratch and earn your way up the top of the ladder. There are a few ways to do this like playing various game modes with other players, stealing and selling cars off the street and of course, robbing convenience and liquor stores. The latter is one of the quickest ways to earn cash, depending on how fast you can outrun the cops. Well, it looks like someone was experimenting with masks in this picture and it just turned out great. That thing can smile all it wants, it’s terrifying even without the

If you haven’t played that much GTA V Online in a while and you’re thinking of getting back to it, be weary because there are going to be people on your server that are at way higher levels than you are and they will have the means to kill you on repeat with ease. The higher your level, the better quality of weapons you get. That can get annoying when all some people want to do is go around killing other players. But with all the explosives, melee weapons and guns available, you’d think that people would be a little more creative with how they took you out. As funny as this meme is, there’s a good deal of truth in it. You can’t walk five minutes without some d-bag flattening you with his

I find GTA V ’s issues especially interesting because Saints Row IV released barely a month before it and Saints Row IV succeeded in every aspect that GTA V failed. Fast, exciting transportation? Check. Lots of missions that are close enough together to reach? Check. Varied challenges that offer inherent value to improve your character? Check. 1255 clusters in town to improve your skills, carefully placed to catch your eye. Lots of wacky and entertaining missions that use the game mechanics in smart ways. Unique topography to keep missions engaging on a design perspective. All of these things made Saints Row IV a prime example of open-world gaming that not once felt like padding or busy work.

One such mission is the Boiler Suit mission, where all you need to do is buy some boiler suits. No seriously, that's it. In order to add some replayability, Rockstar also added some gold challenges for this mission as well, because why the hell

Let's begin with one of the more recent releases starring a white samurai who is a savior to Japan. I'm referring to Nioh and not Tom Cruise’s The Last Samurai . Yes, the protagonist, William, did have a Japanese spirit guarding him since he was a child and sure a sailor would probably pick up a thing or two on his travels, but to be the best of the best? I think not, but who am I to say. Maybe his swashbuckling heritage gives him the edge over trained soldiers and otherworldly demons. It's unique I'll give Koei Tecmo that, but regardless of a cool idea, it's still pretty weird. Also William's character design looks a like Geralt from The Witcher series. Now there's a monster slayer who'd do well in Japan. There’s nothing wrong with a white skinned hero being a samurai, but it is si

In Scouting The Port, you control Trevor in what is probably one of the most boring missions in the game. You need to maintain cover as you take pictures of a ship that you'll assault in a heist mission. In order to keep yourself inconspicuous, you'll need to do menial cargo worker tasks... which is as much fun as it sounds like. Obviously, people boot up Grand Theft Auto V just to drive slow forklifts and move around containers using a cr

Now as dramatic as I made that out to be, this is supposed to be a hilarious take on video game logic memes. Granted I may come across grumpier, or more agitated rather than lighthearted, but know I’m coming from a place of love with these entries. Again, I love video games and even though these memes bring up a good point in contradicting logic, I wouldn’t give up gameplay just to make the world make more sense. That would detract from what actually makes video games the greatest medium out there. Anyway, before you read on know that some of these entries contain SPOILERS . Other than that en

What follows is a lot of driving around and watching cutscenes, something that's not exactly what one expects from a Grand Theft Auto mission.
For the current-gen re-release of GTAV, the resolution has been improved to 1080p at 30fps. The draw distance, level of detail and texture resolution have also all been increased. While the draw distance is still not perfect, it's a lot better than it was last-gen, with most objects coming into view when you'd actually be looking for them. The characters themselves look fantastic, with more facial detail and facial animations as well as higher resolution textures across their wardrobes. There's more pedestrians on the streets, making the world feel more alive. Even the animals have softer fur and there's more species to boot. If softer animal fur wasn't enough to get you excited, all of the TV shows and short films in the game have even been rendered in high-resolution. Released in September 2013, GTAV broke practically every sales record and was lauded in almost every circle. While it debuted just months before the next generations of consoles, it didn't seem long in the tooth. Rockstar pushed the limits of nearly decade old hardware and delivered the largest entry in the series yet, both by size and sheer things to do. GTAV is a game where a hundred hours could easily be dropped into it without completing a single mission. Forever changing the landscape of video games, there's little doubt GTAV will go down as a classic. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt tears down the restrictive barriers that kept the previous games from being fully open world, letting Geralt explore one of the largest open worlds in gaming history. Sure, there’s something to be said about attaining a certain level of realism, but at the end of the day, games are fun because they’re so unreal. This is just hilarious though. It’s something we’ve all probably seen before, but finding yourself a hairdresser and coming out of the place with longer hair than you went in with is something about GTA V that makes us all chuc

While the game's content is definitely aimed at a mature audience, the games are generally considered a nihilistic satire of modern life and parody of modern pop culture. So although the characters and storylines have serious undertones, it's because of the games often playful nature they aren't considered mature in same sense as a game like The Last Of Us or Telltale's The Walking Dead series — which is the intention of the develop

The game has a deep character relationship system and is capable of playing on your raw emotions in a brilliant way. Consequently, State of Decay doesn't pull any punches with character loss, the realities of life in the community and the dynamic structure can force you to make very difficult moral decisi

After Michael went into "retirement," Trevor relocated to Sandy Shores and decided to do what he does best -- be a redneck. Soon all three characters are thrust into the plans of a crooked FiB agent (guess what initialism that’s a play on) and some notorious gangsters in the city and have to work together to survive and bring in a handsome payday while they’re at it.

For my money I hope that Grand Theft Auto V delivers a new character in a familiar setting because that’s what Rockstar does so well: introduce gamers to a fully fleshed out world and let them experience it through the eyes of a new and interesting character. Yes, getting to catch up with any of the characters from GTA ’s past seems like fun, but it would pale in comparison to meeting someone

It's not the set pieces or spectacle that gives it a mature edge though, it's the way the game tells a historical story about the price of liberty, national divide, and extremism in the Colonial American branch of the Assassins. These are issues that seem more relevant than ever before in a modern wo

"I'm sure part of that is that I've already played a lot of GTA V, but it's also because I just don't think about the main characters as much, since I can't see them.
But until that happens, you've got the Game Ranter Banter discussion to look forward to. This week, five of our lovely writers talk about the new Battleship game, based off the movie... based off of the game. In addition, we discuss Double Fine's unprecedented success with Kickstarter, why terrible games can sometimes be the most enjoyable, the UMD Passport's absence outside of Japan, and the release date for Grand Theft Auto V . Without further ado, let's get this star

Fallout 3 married the setting and concept of the Fallout series with the open world RPG gameplay Bethesda is known for, and the result is one of the best open world experiences in gaming. Fallout 3 lets players explore Washington D.C. and the surrounding area after the world has been ravaged by nuclear warfare, giving them the chance to see a number of recognizable landmarks that have been warped by war and time. The game also has plenty of completely original locations filled with memorable characters, like the charming (possibly doomed) little town of Megaton, for exam

As anticipated as GTA V was, the hype gradually subsided once the game finally dropped and fans were more than content while playing through its campaign. But Rockstar upped the ante with the announcement of GTA V Online as it promised players four person heists with friends. People were really looking forward to it, but even when Online was made available on launch day people had to wait a little longer for heists to make their way into the fold. That isn’t the only disappointment fans had to deal with though, as —for a period of time— Online itself was just a busted mess. It was incredibly difficult to get into a session, and most players had to wait days before actually getting in. Some of those that did get in even lost their characters and had to start o

Described by Trevor Philips as "inbred hillbilly twats," the O'Neil brothers are little more than very minor antagonists for his business, but during their brief time in the game, they are undeniably savage. They are presented as a group of inbred imbeciles, living on a family farm in the middle of nowhere, and doing little other than cooking meth and behaving like the lowest forms of human life. Trevor attacks their farm/meth lab compound, taking out most of these guys, but several had left the area prior to the start of the mission. They are taken care of later. While the O'Neil's aren't the most violent or scary of the savage characters in the game, they are recognized as being beyond rural, and closer to something almost f

On that note, let’s discuss Pokémon ’s many mind-boggling abnormalities. Sending out pre-teen children into the wild with hordes of monsters roaming about sounds like a case for child services, but, that aside, I want to discuss legendary Pokémon instead. Each new game introduces several legendary Pokémon, but none has been more nonsensical as Arceus, which first appeared in Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl . Essentially this creature is believed to be the first Pokémon, who also created existence. Oh right, so he's God then. I understand Game Freak wanting to up the stakes with each new legendary monster, but why not keep them as just cool, rare Pokémon instead of creating literal Gods? If you want to do that, then make them unobtainable, otherwise it makes no sense how a child can catch a God, or the

There are plenty of things you can do in GTA V that might throw people off. Rampaging is pretty common if you have nothing better to do and while it’s just mindless carnage, it can still be pretty fun. But one of the most common acts of violence in the entire series happens too often as a simple traffic accident. The driving controls in GTA V are great, but that doesn’t make you a master driver. More often than not, if you’re going really fast, you’re going to hit something. It often ends up being innocent pedestrians, crossing the street just as you’re gunning it – completely ignoring the red light. It may sometimes be intentional, but more often than not these end up being genuine accide

If a Phoenix Down can revive a character, then why is Aeris dead? Aeris' death has plagued us for ages, with some even going so far as to track down ways to actually revive her. While using hacks, mods, and cheats can do it, canonically Aeris is dead so it's time to let it go. It's funny to laugh at the logic of this one, but I theorize that whenever someone dies in Final Fantasy VII , or really any RPG, they just fall into a critical state. Pokémon says it best when they label downed Pokémon as feinted. When all three party members are stricken down, that opportunity leaves the monster a chance to truly finish them off. So with all that said, it makes sense why Aeris is actually dead as sad as it is. So there I ruined the m

Grand Theft Auto has a similar conundrum. At this point, the player has the option of killing Bernstein. While it does bring police attention, it is worth it to rid the GTA world of this scumbag. I mean, forcing your wife to sleep with strangers? Savage AF, ind

Things can get pretty heated in GTA V Online. Aside from having a dozen wild cards around you on the map, you have to worry about which one of them might lose it first. There’s no real reason as to why people always kill each other online. It’s just instinctive. Kill them before you – or just kill them and take their money. But while some people might be passive, others will hunt you to the ends of hell to get even. If you piss people off enough, you might have to just bail to a different server. Some of these people hold some pretty strong grudges. If you’re watching it happen though, it’s pretty funny to see someone get their just desserts over and o

Batman has one code: do not kill. Sometimes properties go against these known rules like 2016’s awful Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice where Batman literally shoots people with a gun. Not a gun that propels sleeping gas, but an actual gun with bullets. Batman shooting a gun is the least of that film’s problems though. Anyway, Batman also kills dudes in the Arkham games, even if it isn't as obvious. The damage he does to some henchmen is violent that they’re either dead or so close to it they want to be. Plus, Batman Arkham Knight introduces the Batmobile, which is a whole other can of worms. Like my Final Fantasy VII theory regarding death, I have one for Batman as well that solves this dilemma. I think the player sees reality where the in-game Batman thinks he’s holding back to keep his mind sane. Take a look at this CollegeHumor video , which sums up my point quite accurat

Of the three protagonists of the game, Franklin is the most well-adjusted. Given that he was primarily raised by his grandparents until they died and then cared for by his aunt, one might think he'd end up far worse. Compared to the thugs he meets through the game, Frank is actually an honest, caring, genuine guy. Of course, he's also an absolute savage, who racks up quite a body count over the course of the game, killing cops, other gang members, and anyone else who gets in his way. Franklin's level of savagery is very much based on player input, however. If he chooses "option 3" at the end, and keeps Trevor and Michael alive, then he isn't very savage at all, and demonstrates true loyalty to his friends, but if he kills either one, that's savage betra

I’m worried that the same sense of loss immersion during my demo of XING will be applied to Grand Theft Auto, or other violent games released in the future, by the mainstream press, who already have a history of blowing video game violence out of proportion. GTA V on Oculus Rift won't make any person more violent, and it definitely won’t cause any deaths, but it does make the act of playing a violent game a lot harder to defend. All it would take is a 30 minute demo to a news outlet for a video with a headline like, "What Murder Simulator Are You Allowing Your Kids to Play," to be spread through the internet just like any of the other unsupported claims made by unsavory news outlets.

"What really highlights this is the newly implemented first-person mode. It sounds really basic on paper: How could a simple shift of perspective change a game so much? What that shift does, though, is put you that much closer to the world Rockstar wants you to inhabit, and it works. You’ll stop to glance at billboards, watch a banner flap in the wind, punch a random busker in the face, notice a cat leaping off a fence, or whatever else happens to catch your fancy. The viewpoint really does give you that Skyrim effect, where you want to point your camera in a direction and just walk until you find something cool. Driving takes some getting used to, and certain actions (like shooting while driving) will take some serious skill to get halfway decent at, but there’s so much detail, and it generally controls so well, that you’ll likely find any excuse to tuck that screen in as close as you c

Fast forward about 10 years and my dreams of total immersion are so close to realization. The popular VR headset, Oculus Rift, and the in-place movement tracker, the Omni, are available for purchase at a total price point just over $1,000. In just ten years, fully immersive VR has gone from completely inaccessible to a savings account emptying possibility, with the pricing forecast getting lower and lower each year.

We have been working so hard to define video games as an important piece of the tapestry of global culture, and now we may have to resort to the "it's just a game" argument to keep virtual reality afloat. I have some serious concerns that we are actually going to be taking steps backwards, not forwards like I had thought, when we inevitably adopt virtual reality as a part of gaming.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the perfect example of a slow trudge through a huge world, one that works fantastically. Skyrim dodges GTA ’s pitfall because of how the open-world is set up. If you leave a town and find that you’re approaching a landmark, you’ll more than likely want to go there and mark it on your map. The landmarks and activities are spaced just far enough apart that they aren’t overwhelmingly close (ultimately feeling like busy work), but far away enough to be enticing and worth going after. And those brief periods between the activities are filled with enemies to fight, ingredients to gather, or even NPC’s to help. These things are good because they have inherent and meaningful value. Enemies to fight mean potential for experience. Ingredients to gather mean new items to craft. NPC’s to help means more missions or secrets. This is a pitch-perfect way to make a world big, but not empty. Bethesda intelligently placed each valuable thing in Skyrim to offer tantalizing reward, but a good enough distance to make the world big and full of expansive promise.

But after years of playing it, fans have found their share of humorous quirks with the game. While that line may sound ripped straight from a PR-laden interview, it’s quite accurate considering telling a story from the eyes of just one man would lead to new areas not being discovered for tens of hours into the game. The game stars three protagonists: Michael, Franklin and Trevor. After a prologue that sets the events of the game in motion, Franklin is the first playable character. Similar to CJ in San Andreas, Franklin is well-meaning gangster who lives with his aunt in the ghetto and is trying to make a better life for himself. Clearly more intelligent than his known associates, Franklin is confined to being a repo man for a shady car dealer who plays the race car to get customers into vehicles they can’t afford, only to have Franklin repo them weeks later thanks to ludicrous financing. Unlike Vice City , San Andreas expanded the world size considerably, encompassing three major cities instead of just one. It was a technical endeavor for the Playstation 2, no doubt, but it also drew upon a number of issues that have made the open-world setup more problematic than it did back in the day. Making a world bigger requires many more activities to keep things interesting. Otherwise, you’re wandering around from mission to mission with barely any sort of activity. It might as well be empty space. Changeable topography, different challenges that appear while moving from location to location, these types of things keep that lull between missions away. San Andreas didn’t suffer from that too much, but it brought to light the idea that spreading something out can leave plenty of weak spots in between.

"It's too early to talk specifics, but definitely all the DLCs and updates will be free. The latter is one of the quickest ways to earn cash, depending on how fast you can outrun the cops. He's no longer an Apu-esque caricature, and it’s my personal choice whether to kill him or not. The screams of nearby civilians immediately following the gunshots solidified the terror perpetrated by player actions in my mind. When a game is riddled with mini-games, it usually hints and the overall product being of questionable quality. But Rockstar got it right once more with GTA V. Rather than being there as compensation, these mini-games, and tasks that you can immerse yourself in throughout the game help make it all seem that much more real. But man, Tennis, Golf, Stock trading – this does kind of seem a little bit like a retirement simulator on the side, doesn’t

All of Grand Theft Auto V’s clever, if at times blunt, commentary about the American dream and class warfare wither away when you see a video like this. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt tears down the restrictive barriers that kept the previous games from being fully open world, letting Geralt explore one of the largest open worlds in gaming history. What's even more impressive about The Witcher 3 's open world is that despite its immense size, the game still manages to have an absurd level of detail that's just not found in most tit

Another benefit to the multi-protagonist setup and also one of the biggest new features to mission portion of the game are heists. While the majority of missions are either driven by a single character or are like the aforementioned one, there’s a handful of heists sprinkled throughout. Heists are basically multi-tiered missions that contain multiple small missions to set them up and require an higher level of planning to correctly execute. The first heist in the game, for instance, concerns knocking off a high-end jewelry store. There are two methods available to tackle the job: quiet or loud (smart or dumb). Going in loud is what you’d imagine, simply rushing into the store with heavy artillery and running out with the merchandise. Going in quiet, however, requires more planning and stealth tactics. In a jewel heist, for instance, chemicals and an exterminator truck must be stolen. Using the exterminator gig as cover, you head up on the roof with a gas mask and uniform and drop some gas into the vents of the store. Meanwhile, the rest of the crew bursts into the store with similar outfits and cleans it out while the customers and clerks are unconscious. One great feature of these heists is that the crew itself must be individually selected. You’ll generally need a gunner, driver and hacker, who are selected via a pool of known associates and characters encountered throughout missions. These criminals vary in expertise, with those highly experienced demanding more of the cut. Going with a low experienced crew member means that more could go wrong (for example, having a bad driver could mean they get captured and lose whatever loot they were carrying), but the more they are used, the better they get with the same cut. Heists add a fantastic dynamic to the game and make the scope of the universe seem larger than ever.

One game I had imagined more than any other had to be the open world of Grand Theft Auto. Looking to the future, there are plenty of other open world games on the horizon that are brimming with potential, such as Middle-earth: Shadow of War and Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2 . Unfortunately, this mission is not one of them. After the events of Did Somebody Say Yoga? (another heart-pounding mission like this one) Michael's family life is in shambles. His wife and children leave him for what seems like a terribly short amount of time, after which Jimmy comes up in order to reunite with Michael and bring the family b
Found on the eastern coast of San Andreas, not far from the Braddock Pass on Mount Gordo is a golden tree.

All of Grand Theft Auto V’s clever, if at times blunt, commentary about the American dream and class warfare wither away when you see a video like this. It is nearly impossible to show the Omni video to someone and explain to them the cultural significance of GTAV. After attempting the feat with a nongamer friend of mine, she simply stated, "So in this game you just run around and rob people?" Once the idea portrayed by the clip gets into your head, it’s nearly impossible to worm out.

Not only must players contend with deadly pirates and other armed combatants, but they're just as likely to be killed by a Komodo dragon that can pounce from out of nowhere. While the majority of missions are either driven by a single character or are like the aforementioned one, there’s a handful of heists sprinkled throughout. Heists are basically multi-tiered missions that contain multiple small missions to set them up and require a higher level of planning to correctly execute.

There’s something eerie about literally walking into a store, looking down the sights of a gun and into the eyes of a store clerk, even if it is all virtual. It immediately creates a narrative between assailant and victim that wasn’t there when viewing the game through the window of a TV screen. He's no longer an Apu-esque caricature, and it’s my personal choice whether to kill him or not. The screams of nearby civilians immediately following the gunshots solidified the terror perpetrated by player actions in my mind. I was, and even thinking about it days after initially seeing it still am, deeply disturbed.
Touring the vastness of Liberty City, meeting colorful characters and going into storefronts all excited me. The player then goes on to threatening and killing the clerk as well as many passersby outside of the store.

Found not long after the launch of the game in 2013, the Jolene Cranley-Evans’ Ghost is by far one of the creepiest easter eggs to come out of GTA 5 . Jolene’s ghost can be found near the peak of Mount Gordo upon a large flat rock that bears the word JOCK - in what appears to be blood. Jolene will only appear between the time of 23:00 and 0:00, where she is dressed in a large white dress with long dark black hair.
It wouldn't be a Grand Theft Auto game without a parody character making an appearance! Just like other games in the series, GTA V is no exception as Jesse, a Jesus impersonator, can be found at the Del Perro Pier. Jesse, a bearded man wearing blue jeans, a white shirt, and a crucifix around his neck, can be found entertaining on the pier where he shares his Biblical stories from his personal experiences. You will also find that if you speak to Jesse, he will tell you just how much he loves everyone, and also how his dad loves everyone as well.

I, like many of my friends and colleagues, am a strong supporter of virtual reality. I remember seeing early YouTube videos of a guy hooked up to a massive virtual reality headset suspended from the ceiling by a tangle of cords while walking along a conveyor-like platform that tracked his movement. Even though the clip didn't even show what game he was playing, I was excited, but the cumbersome nature of the device made entering a virtual world seem like a luxury only the absurdly wealthy would ever get to enjoy.

Another recent release that we're gonna pick apart is Resident Evil 7: Biohazard . There are plenty of memes out there I could tackle from the series in the past, including Leon being the sole agent sent in to rescue the president’s daughter in Resident Evil 4. Anyway very early in the game our hero, Ethan, has his left armed cut off via a chainsaw from his possessed wife, Mia. You immediately then pour some herbal water on it, as if that helps, and then fight her again with your one arm, as if you wouldn't pass out from blood loss instead. Somehow, hours later, the Baker family were able to reattach your hand like magic. Ethan’s reaction to me is what’s most troublesome. He yells from shock after initially losing it, but he is surprisingly calm afterward. He’s more scared of some bugs later on in the game. Suffice it to say, I think Ethan is emotionally stunted. Maybe this isn’t the first time Mia took a chainsaw to

Now this easter egg is rather strange as players have previously data-mined GTA V for all of the possible phone numbers within the game, but this one did not appear. This has led to many players to believing that Rockstar have only recently added the number into the game. Why you ask? Nobody knows, but that hasn’t stopped players from searching for any connections that it may have to other easter eggs within the game.

While retro properties like Mario and Pac-Man have evolved into symbols of the industry at large, there’s hardly any other post ‘80s series that is not only universally recognized, but so frequently discussed. This is a gaming franchise that has been the focal point of the argument against video game violence, with multiple lawsuits and constant discussions surrounding it throughout the first half of the aughts. This is a series that is known enough to make its title into a verb, with "going Grand Theft Auto on ___" a phrase that’s seeped its way into many a gamer’s vernacular. And, of course, this is a series that’s given new meaning to "hot coffee." Yet through all of the criticism and controversy, it’s managed to not only be one of the best selling franchises of all time, but one of the most critically acclaimed. It’s the game that represents the generational gap, uniting Millennials from all walks of life who've found an aspect to latch onto, while almost everybody else has a hard time understanding why we’d want to commit virtual vehicular homicide. Yet for all the violence of the game (and there is plenty), that’s not what makes us return to Grand Theft Auto; it’s the fact that it’s a virtual world that lets us do what we want -- a mantra the fifth entry into the series takes to heart.

In Mission 3 of Deadpool , your adventure takes you through the sewers.

When Grand Theft Auto V was first announced, fans had hoped that CJ would make a triumphant return in some form – whether it was a minor reference, cameo or an encounter. While some minor references were made throughout the [https://www.gta5fans.com/ GTA 5 Story Guide]-line, the mission "Hood Safari" was what really got the fans excited as Rockstar managed to bring a wave of nostalgia that no one saw coming. During the mission, the player is required to take Franklin, Lamar, Trevor and Chop to Grove Street in order to conduct a drug deal.

I'm jamming this problem onto The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim , but it applies to many games. So one of my biggest gripes is character's having a weight limit. First of all, you’re telling me tht my character can carry an unlimited amount of cash, in this case gold, without a pack, but somehow an ingredient I use in potions, like a bug’s wing, will crush my body if I carry too many? I think not. Dungeons and Dragons have various bags with pocket dimensions capable of holding larger objects without weighing down the player. Giving a character something similar would ease my soul, as I would understand that one more wing would not fit into my pocket's dimension. Now the easiest reason why there are restrictions is because of memory. If Skyrim had to keep track of everything you pick up, I imagine it'd crash more than it already d
