In the wide world of entertainment, there will always be the underrated and the overrated. While completely subjective, these two words can spark an argument just as easy as your uncle at a Thanksgiving table who feels the need to share his take on the current political climate. That said, these terms are so easy to throw around that it's infuriating to give them any power, yet you'd be remiss to not acknowledge they're sometimes appropriate.

Not to rack on video game critics , but often they're wrong, and the community-at-large spares no expense in making sure they know it. So let's take a dive into the world of reviews and shed some light on when the critics undervalued a game and the other times when it was overrated completely .

10 Criminally Low - Killing Floor (72)

Zombies as a sub-genre are over-saturated in, [https://www.Adventurejourneyhub.com/ AdventureJourneyHub site] well, everything. They've long taken over our movies and books, but in gaming, they've reached a new height of fatigue. Nazi Zombies, State of Decay and Days Gone are just some of the many that tired the genre. But not Killing Floor, this game - while not the prettiest or most modern - broke new ground in a genre where that was previously thought impossible.

For a 2009 game, it brought to the table a unique zombie system, ranking system, and enough classes and weapons to keep you thrilled for hours. It was Nazi Zombies but on steroids.

9 Way Too High - Fifa 19 (83)

If we wanted to, we could litter this whole list with sports games. But we won't do that to you, because these things hardly count as "real" games. Instead, they're more so DLC for their previous version with few splashes of polish added in for good measure. Oh and that's not even mentioning their real purpose which is to be gambling machines cleverly devised to eat your credit card.

And the funny part is you, and even the Fifa community know this, awarding the game a 1.7 score on Metacritic. Maybe it doesn't deserve to be that low (or maybe it does) but it's sickening to see the critic score of 83.

8 Criminally Low - South Park The Stick of Truth (85)

An overall score of 85 ain't bad if we're talking games like Fallout 4 or maybe Modern Warefare, but South Park The Stick of Truth is a masterpiece, fan of the show or not. It's one of the best of its genre - something that is on the level of games like Skyrim, Mass Effect 2 and Witcher 3.

It's that good and you can tell that Obsidian and show creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker put every bit of their hearts into it. Maybe the humor can be crude, but why on God's good earth would you pick this up if you didn't expect that. There's not much more to say except go play it and have the time of your life.

7 Way Too High - Destiny 2 (85)

Destiny is a franchise that gets too much flak. It reminds me of the kind of treatment that games like Call of Duty and Fortnite receive, because while not bad, most critics hate the idea of what they are, and rightfully so. But Destiny deserves some credit - the graphics are reality breaking, the gameplay addicting once you're sucked in and the loot, ok we guess.

The game has a lot going for it, but so much going against it. So many pay-walls, seemingly random bans, and a laughably poor story add up to a game that shouldn't score close to an 83.

6 Criminally Low - Fallout New Vegas (84)

Earlier when I was mentioning perfect RPG's I was close to bringing up this beauty but had to save it for the right occasion, and that occasion is now. Many argue that Fallout: New Vegas is not only the best modern Fallout game but the best game in the series.

The funny part being that this score makes it equal to Fallout 4, a game many fans consider one of the worst (although it ain't too shabby if you ask us). Still, this is one of the classics in modern gaming and still receives so much support from the community. So an 84 ain't cutting it.

5 Way Too High - Any Madden Game Past 08

Here's a fun bit of information - did you know that modders have continued to support Madden 08 for ten years after it was created? While this is no doubt an impressive feat, it has been done on PC before; but why would a game like Madden 08 receive this same treatment?

Because it was the last great one that actually brought something new to the table and for a long time the last Madden to be playable on PC. So While we promised no other sports games, we're going to have to break that to chastise critics for continually praising the series past this point.

4 Criminally Low - Excite Truck (72)

Don't let the graphics fool you, this early Wii release was one of the console's best. In Excite Truck you have all the fun because as you drive through its colorful set of locations you'll do so going hundreds of miles fast and jumping lunaticly high into the sky.

Plus it's the only time that it's fun to use the Wii remotes for driving as you skirt all throughout the courses. Go ahead and pick up this gem for a buck at Game Stop, brush the dust off your Wii and play one of the best driving games ever made - yeah, it's really that good (and crazy addicting too).

3 Way Too High - Fable 3 (80)

Fable 3 is one of those games that makes you think "why, why isn't this game good?" Any Xbox owner back in the early-to-mid 2000s would've told you that the Fable franchise could contend with the greats. And all it needed was a crowing third game to solidify this franchise as one of the best - but, that never came.

Instead, we got Fable 3, a game full of boring gameplay and a story that felt just as stale. Even games like Mass Effect 3 and Dead Space 3 offer somewhat of a good game, Fable 3 sadly just has nothing redeeming it.

2 Criminally Low - Wii Sports (76)

Ok, we know what you're thinking, but there aren't too many games as revolutionary and influential as Wii Sports. Clearly influential doesn't always mean good, but no matter how cynical you are, Wii Sports is one smash up game. So much fun has been had in this game that you'd be hard-pressed to find a game as universally loved.

Yes, it isn't the prettiest and yes, technically speaking it isn't even in the realm of games like The Witcher 3 and Grand Theft Auto. But every game packed into this thing is some of the most fun you'll ever have in any video [https://www.Adventurejourneyhub.com/ Adventure game secrets] - plus it's offered iconic moments like taking on Elise in Tennis (God I hated her).

1 Way Too High - Assassin's Creed Odyssey (83)

These games are so terrible - they're the video game equivalent of fake news. Sure they have the glam, the money and certainly the marketing to make this franchise seem good, but in reality, it's the poor man's Witcher. Most of the game in Assassin's Creed Odyssey is spent boring yourself to death, whether that be trailing someone for the hundredth time or taking on a series of poorly developed enemies that often bug out.

And speaking of bugs, it's an Ubisoft game so you bet it's got tons of those. This franchise is the definition of overrated and a Metacritic score of 83 is too kind.

NEXT: 10 Underrated Games You Might Not Remember From Childhood

Today, several games were shown during Microsoft's Inside Xbox event, the first of a series of events that are being planned over the next few months. With a first-party event planned for July, the focus was on third-party games coming to Xbox Series X, and while the Assassin's Creed: Valhalla "gameplay" reveal was the star attraction, there was a surprising number of next-gen horror games featured in the showcase.

From Monstrum 2 to Bloober Teams newly announced The Medium , here's a look at every horror game that's been announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X so far (listed in alphabetical order).

Although its current window of release is unknown, Techland's Dying Light 2 is one of the bigger games known about so far. It was delayed from its spring 2020 window, instead likely releasing sometime this fall. And when it does, it has been confirmed to be a cross-gen release on PS5 and Xbox Series X .

During Bethesda's E3 presentation last year, The Evil Within and The Evil Within 2 developer Tango Gameworks revealed that it was working on a new survival-horror game, Ghostwire: Tokyo. Not a lot is currently known about Ghostwire: Tokyo , only that it's not a traditional horror game, but an action-adventure where players will need to rid the city of Tokyo of paranormal enemies and supernatural evil. Given that no release window or platforms were announced, it seems safe to say Ghostwire: Tokyo is eyeing the next-generation consoles, although this is currently speculation.

RELATED: Deep Silver Reveals Chorus at Inside Xbox

Martha is Dead is a psychological thriller in development from the creators of The Town of Light , LKA. Set during World War II, Martha is Dead follows a young woman who must uncover the truth of how her twin sister Martha was killed, all while dealing with superstition surrounding mysterious folklore, and coping with the extreme horrors of war. Martha is Dead has been confirmed for both PC and PlayStation 5 and will be released sometime in 2020.

Perhaps the most unique upcoming horror game, Monstrum 2, is a 4v1 multiplayer horror game where players must survive in a procedurally generated labyrinth set in a decaying sea fortress. As a direct sequel to Team Junfish's 2015's rogue-lite Monstrum , four players take on the role of survivors and will need to scavenge for supplies and find hidden access routes to important equipment, all while trying to survive from a terrifying lab experiment gone wrong. Think Predator: Hunting Grounds or Evolve but in a procedurally generated environment where the puzzles are always changing.

After the success of P.T. inspired psychological thriller Layers of Fear in 2016, horror game extraordinaire Bloober Team followed it up with the cyberpunk-themed psychological thriller, Observer for PC, PS4, Xbox One , and Nintendo Switch earlier this year. It's next game, Observer: System Redux is effectively a next-generation port, taking the original game and updating it with enhanced visuals and gameplay, as well as brand new story content . Observer: System Redux is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Kings of Lorn: The Fall of Ebris developer TeamKill Media has announced its upcoming first-person shooter and horror hybrid , Quantum Error . The announcement trailer doesn't reveal too much about the game; however, i it takes place on Earth in the year 2109 during some sort of invasion by zombie-like creatures. Quantum Error has been confirmed for both PS4 and PS5, with no word on a release window.

Developed by Ebb Software and heavily inspired by the works of H. R. Giger, the original designer of the Xenomorph from Alien , Scorn is a first-person horror game that was first announced all the way back in 2014. After ongoing issues with funding, Scorn is back and in development for Xbox Series X and PC. Set in a nightmarish universe, Ebb Software has designed the game around the idea of players being thrown into an unsettling environment that makes them question what they see. Each location contains its own theme, and players will need to acquire skills, unlock weapons, and complete puzzles to make it out alive.

From the brilliant minds at Bloober Team, developer of Layers of Fear 2, [https://www.adventurejourneyhub.com/ www.adventurejourneyhub.com] Blair Witch , and the previously mentioned Observer: System Redux comes a new original next-generation psychological horror, The Medium . Haunted by a vision of a child's murder, players control Marianne, a medium that's living between two different worlds: the real world and the spirit world, and must find answers in an abandoned hotel resort. For the creation of The Medium 's soundtrack, Bloober Team has chosen to collaborate with Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka in an effort to reflect the game’s theme of duality. The Medium will release on Xbox Series X and PC in Holiday 2020.

RELATED: Yakuza: Like a Dragon Inside Xbox Trailer Reveals Explosive Action

Originally scheduled for a March 2020 release, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is an action RPG with enough elements of horror to fit the description. Set in the fictional World of Darkness, a group of rogue vampires has broken the masquerade and begun killing and turning humans throughout Seattle. Players take on the role of a newly turned vampire and must learn to control their new powers before joining one of the cities' vampire groups. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X sometime in 2020.

Horror games are a great way to show off new technology, allowing for features like ray tracing to really shine, so it's no surprise that Microsoft took advantage of that during the Inside Xbox event. Microsoft has already announced it will be holding monthly Xbox Series X streams over the summer as part of its Xbox 20/20 initiative, and Sony is yet to properly reveal the PlayStation 5 to the world, meaning that with or without E3 2020, there's going to be plenty of next-gen news on the horizon, and more horror games to be revealed.

MORE: Everything Revealed for Xbox Series X in Inside Xbox Stream
They stand for loyalty and friendship, which often makes them valued video game sidekicks. Players can't get enough of them. Even when their roles are small they are often the most valued characters. Many gamers are just programmed to love animals, especially dogs.

Updated March 23, 2022 by Allison Stalberg: Dogs and everywhere in video games, even when they are not, as recently shown in Elden Ring where players are writing messages next to turtles that just say "dog." Popular video game dogs are ever-increasing, such as the newest addition, Argos, from Final Fantasy 14 . There are also older faces that deserve attention, such as the mabari from Dragon Age: Origins . From post-apocalyptic German Shepards to bipedal guitarists, video games have given society a lot of memorable dogs.

Isabella is very popular, but K.K. Slider was around since the beginning and enchanted players with his mellow speech and passion for song. He is not a one-trick pony either, as he has over 90 songs since New Leaf came out!

He is also a unique dog character since he can talk and is either a boss, sidekick, or protagonist. He is just a famous traveling artist and sticks true to the laid-back and cute style of Animal Crossing games.

Argos is one of the newest dogs to gaming, playing an important role in Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker and later being accessible as a mount for players to ride on. The golden-haired dog belonged to Venat a very long time ago but has survived the test of time due to being a familiar rather than your average animal.

The dog has become a favorite mount among players, standing as a symbol to them completing the Endwalker story. Argos is also named after a dog from Homer's Odyssey .

Fallout is a big series, and Dogmeat is one of its most iconic characters . He first appeared in the original game in 1997 and continued to pop up in the games as a companion all to way to Fallout 4 .

RELATED: The Most Underrated Platformers On The PS4 (& Those That Are Overrated)

Fans loved this dog so much that they would reload their save files if he ever ended up dead. Sometimes that meant undoing hours of game progress! So fans were very happy once Fallout 4 made it so Dogmeat could not die (though some still do not like that the dog can be attacked at all).

The mabari companion in Dragon Age: Origins is the one unquestionably faithful friend in the party. No matter what the Warden does, the dog remains loyal. Like other companions, it can be part of banter while the player explores. This results in a lot of humorous relationships between companions and the dog.

The dog is also quite skilled in battle, able to knock down enemies and tear them to shreds. Players could also get and give gifts to the dog as well as decorate it with warpaint and collars.

The dog of Fable 2 is most well known for being part of one of the biggest choices in the game. The dog, who is your loving companion throughout the game, dies protecting you in a boss fight. At the end of the game, you get to choose a major reward. You have three choices: a ton of wealth, reviving the people who died or reviving your dog. Guess what a lot of players end up choosing?

This boss fight broke a lot of hearts, as you had to defeat a wolf that was protecting the grave of its fallen comrade. First of all, the wolf's design is awesome. It is huge, epic, and carries a giant sword. Also, its backstory is very tragic. Players felt very strongly about this boss fight due to the lore behind the wolf and its dead companion.

RELATED: The Worst Turn-Based Style Games Of All Time (According To Metacritic)

Players didn't want to kill Sif, so rumors spread that Sif could be spared and a ton of players hoped it was true. Unfortunately, the rumors were false. Sif is not an optional boss.

Players fell in love with this companion the moment they saw him as a little puppy in Snake's hands . D-Dog (also known as DD) and Snake even got matching eye patches. You get to see the dog grow from a puppy to a grizzled military dog. Before you know it, the dog is sniffing out and taking down enemies.

The dog has a lot of skill and tricks, following commands such as wait, come, bark, keep enemy busy, knock an enemy out, kill an enemy, and [https://www.adventurejourneyhub.com https://www.adventurejourneyhub.com] wound an enemy.

Who said spooky cannot also be cute? Polterpup may be a ghost, but it still has all its dog charm. Also, the name is adorable. Fans were very excited when they learned they could pet Polterpup in Luigi's Mansion 3 .

A major complaint from many animal-loving gamers is when there are cute animals, but you cannot pet or interact with them. Luckily, Polterpup became available for pets, and he certainly deserves them for being a good boy.

The dog from Duck Hunt is one of the oldest video game dogs, as Duck Hunt was released for the NES in 1984 . Unlike other dogs in gaming, the duck hunt dog is actually one of the most hated characters. This is because he would laugh at players if they missed ducks.

Despite being a symbol of annoyance for many, the dog has become a very iconic video game character to the point that he joined Super Smash titles as a playable character.

This dog has become somewhat of a symbol for Undertale as a whole. The dog is just a troublemaker and appears in short instances throughout the game. It plays a part in one of Papyrus' traps, steals bones from Papyrus, is an actual bomb at one point, and absorbs an item you get for completing the difficult piano puzzle.

Besides those instances, there are a lot of other minor encounters with this mischief-maker. The dogs' antics are absurd and funny, which is quite true to Undertale's humorous tone.
