All told, Wild Hearts is a ton of fun, and definitely should be on your radar if you’ve been contemplating trying Monster Hunter but were put off by the sheer sea of options for character building. Wild Hearts draws loosely from Japanese history during a period of unrest - in the game, caused by enhanced creatures known as Kemono. My favorite weapon, the bow and arrow, has some wholesale moves from Zelda’s character kit in Hyrule Warriors - just rebalanced to a somewhat more grounded power level. The moves remain as cathartic as ever to unleash though, paired with all sorts of meta-strategies that grant an immense skill-ceiling for each weapon. For instance, my bow could land primed explosive shots that a different arrow type could then trigger, making tremendous explosions dealing substantially more damage.
