Troubleshooting
Alfalfa seeds are very easy to cultivate and should begin to sprout within 2 to 6 days. Here are some things to be aware of should your seeds not sprout within this period.

Too dry Seeds need water to develop. Seeds of alfalfa absorb approximately 50% of their weight in water prior to they germinate. This makes them appear to be swelling. Seeds that are not moist enough do not sprout. Add more water to the plate until the seeds are wet but not floating. You could also soak the seeds over night; but be sure to drain and rinse them with clean water before spreading them on the paper towel.

Too wet:If the seeds are wet their new shoots and roots could become rotten before they get a chance to develop. Also, it is possible that mould can begin to grow around the seeds. It's fine for the paper towel to be damp however the seeds should not be floating in water. Drain excess water from the plate each time you mist or water the seeds.

Too cold or hot Alfalfa thrives when temperatures are between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. If you're cultivating your seeds indoors in winter, place them in a cool area. You may need to water your seeds more frequently when they are grown in extreme temperatures. They will dry out faster.
