It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a good value, especially if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you want to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and operates when you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its smart cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxes this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most appealing looking in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home in accordance with the amount of dirt they are.

For larger homes, it's worth opting for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home by using the app or voice commands.
