The easiest Pals to find in the beginning of the game will be Eikthyrdeer or Caprity. You can capture or kill these Pals to collect the materials. While I have personally noticed more dropping from a kill instead of a capture, it's just as viable to capture these Pals for both materials and XP.
You will want to clear out this camp before you take on Lunaris' dungeon, as leaving these enemies around can make the entire process a lot more stressful and irritating. When you are ready, you can head into the dungeon where Lunaris is waiting for you to fight , and hopefully win. Lunaris will be a Level 32 boss , so you will need yourself and your Pals to be up to par with that level before you take them on. Lunaris is also weak to Dark element Pals like Depresso and Killamari.
But, before they are taken out completely, you have to capture them . It is easy to go overboard and accidentally wipe out all of Lunaris' health, but you have to keep an eye on it and once it gets to a point where you have a good shot of capturing it, you will need to throw a Pal Sphere at them as soon as you can. If possible, use a Hyper Sphere or an Ultra Sphere on Lunaris, as they will give you a better shot at actually capturing them. It is recommended to not even try using a normal Pal Sphere.
