Anyone who has ever tried to get someone (especially a non-gamer) into League, knows this struggle. Their number one problem is that they don’t understand turrets. They will literally fall over and over again for months. This is a problem, and it frustrates them to no end. But their out of character cursing and yelling is worth it. How often are they calm, Gamescom 2025 Announcement cool, and collected? How often have they told you to stop yelling because it’s just a game? While these relationships definitely had their use in these action-heavy segments of the demo, the interactions that Arthur has with the other members of the gang also play out in more narratively-driven ways. While trekking through the mountains with John and Bill in a later story section that we played, I had the option to talk to Bill along the way to learn more about the rival gang camp that we were about to ambush. Staying silent would have been a completely viable option as well, but having those type of options speaks to the ways that Red Dead Redemption 2 is aiming for a more dynamic and natural way for players to interact with its world and characters.
That interaction all starts with Arthur Morgan, the game's main protagonist, and how players will decide to take on the role of the senior member of the Van der Linde gang, and Dutch's right-hand man. Having been a part of the gang since childhood, the outlaw life is all that Arthur has known, and most of the trailers leading up to Red Dead Redemption 2 have shown that Arthur isn't exactly much of a "pleasant" person to be around. However, as Rockstar pointed out to us during the demo, the reason behind this is that Arthur essentially owes his life to Dutch and the gang, and he's fiercely protective of them as a result. How fiercely his loyalty lies, however, is left up to the player to decide throughout the course of the story.

I remember when my Dad brought home my first PlayStation, along with Final Fanstasy VII. I was so excited to be clutching that monster case containing 3 discs. In a world where discs are becoming a thing of the past in favour of digital downloads, it seems crazy to think that any game created after 2010 would need anything like. This was not the case for L.A Noire on Xbox 360. Rockstar had put a lot of effort into their facial technology for this game, which was groundbreaking at the time, and it meant that actors would act scenes from the game to give a realistic feel to interviews in game, allowing us to judge their responses based on facial movements. This amount of data meant that the game had to span three discs on the Xbox format as they could not hold it on a single disc, unlike PlayStation who adopted the Blu-Ray disc format. Gamer's became upset with having to swap discs throughout the game, questioning whether this technology was worth spending mass amounts of money on when facial animators could have done a similar job. From just a few hours with Red Dead Redemption 2 , I went from executing a train robbery, to riding on my steed across the vastness of the Western landscape, to infiltrating a rival gang's camp and brutally taking them out. I went from roaming through the wilderness and taking in its serene beauty, to riding alongside the rest of my gang through the snowy mountains, to viciously engaging with the law and avoiding imprisonment at their hands.
With the release of the eagerly awaited Red Dead Redemption 2 on the horizon, they will be thrust into the spotlight once again. That being said, nothing is ever perfect and we all make mistakes, and Rockstar has been no exception over the years. Whether it is being nit-picked to death by their players or condemned within the media, no publisher inspires as many positive and negative reviews as Rockstar. But all publicity is good publicity. ri
