'38 years old and just learned how to cook broccoli five seconds ago,' another wrote.
'The stem is the best part,' one user said while another exclaimed 'I am actually appalled at the stem wastage woah.'
'When you boil it all the goodness goes into the water, it's best to steam it. Or if you boil it, use the water for something so you get the vitamins,' a woman noted.
Viewers in the comments said her method was wasteful however Australian nutritionist Lyndi Cohen told Kidspot boiling broccoli can strip it of its nutrients
Ms Cohen said there were healthier ways to cook broccoli to retain its nutrients.
'I'm not the biggest fan of this hack. If you've boiled broccoli that soft that you can cut it with a fork, you have certainly boiled out a bunch of nutrients - like vitamins E, K, calcium, and polyphenols too,' she said.
'When you boil broccoli you lose up to 90 per cent of the nutrients, ending up with very nutrient-rich water, which most people throw away.'
She said the stem is not necessarily more nutritious than the florets but that it does contain more fibre and recommended blanching, stir frying, grilling or baking broccoli with olive oil to help your body absorb the nutrients.
