He explained: 'Made very quickly became a very innovative place to purchase your furniture and homewares, with its nimble approach to providing customers with quality items at good prices it captured the zeitgeist of living in hotel-style homes that were Instagramable and gave people boasting power.

That said, I was a bit surprised to see that the Nest Wifi Pro doesn't include any Ethernet jacks that are capable of accepting speeds that are faster than a single gigabit. That means that the mesh router won't be able to take full advantage of the multi-gig internet plans that we've seen emerging over the last year or so from a wide range of providers, including AT&T, Ziply Fiber, Verizon, Xfinity, Frontier -- and Google Fiber, which recently touted speeds as high as 20Gbps in its latest field tests. With wired speeds capped at just 1Gbps, Google's own Nest Wifi Pro wouldn't be the router I'd recommend for an internet plan like that.

All of that said, the Nest Wifi Pro's speeds didn't exactly wow us when we tested the system out on a gigabit network. Running speed tests across five rooms in a 1,350-square-foot test environment, the system returned overall average download speeds of 482 megabits per second to a Wi-Fi 6 laptop, and 524Mbps to a Wi-Fi 6E smartphone. Those speeds were incredibly stable and consistent across the entire test space, but they were beat out by other Wi-Fi 6E systems in the same tests, including the similarly specced Eero Pro 6E, which returned average Wi-Fi 6 downloads of 586Mbps and average Wi-Fi 6E downloads of 708Mbps. Granted, that system costs more than the Nest Wifi Pro, but still, it would have been nice to have seen faster speeds for a brand-new, high-profile system, especially over Wi-Fi 6E.

Japan Industrial Partners, the private equity firm since selected by Toshiba as a preferred bidder, originally teamed up with state-backed fund Japan Investment Corp in a first round of bidding earlier this year.

That's not the case with the Nest Wifi Pro. Each device is identical and interchangeable, and each one comes with a pair of gigabit Ethernet ports, so if you're ready to run some cables through your walls for a speedier mesh, you'll be all set.

That said, multi-gig internet plans like that are expensive, and probably more speed than just about anybody needs at home at this point. Still, it's a curious omission with the Nest Wifi Pro, and perhaps a missed opportunity to make the router feel more future-proofed.

private equity fund Bain Capital and north Asia fund MBK Partners to form a separate consortium, is also preparing to bid, but is unlikely to submit a binding proposal by Monday, two of the sources said.

In late October, JIC expanded the size of its buyout fund to 900 billion yen ($6.11 billion) from 200 billion yen. Two of the sources said the expansion was not just for a Toshiba buyout but also aimed at other deals.

Creating trend-driven products at an accessible price-point, the business was a instant success story with millennial consumers and later expanded into France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands.

When Chloe Macintosh, Brent Hoberman, Julien Callède and Ning Li launched Made.com from their East London office in 2010, the co-founders had their sights set on becoming 'Generation Rents go-to homeware brand.

'When it first launched it was a hit because there was nothing quite like it and the consumer felt like they were their own interior designer with clever ways of visualising the product in your homes using quick and easy VR tools.'

Nick concluded: 'With TV shows like The Repair Shop and TikTok tutorials showing us how to upcycle furniture, shoppers are now aware that furniture is something that can increase value in future - unlike the products Made sell.'

JIP, which previously bought out Olympus Corp's camera business and Sony Group Corp's laptop business, will continue to try to secure equity and financing commitments after the deadline, two of the sources said.

It also comes as FCC commissioner Brendan Carr called on the Biden administration to ban the app in an interview on Tuesday, over concerns it is housing millions of consumers' data on insecure servers in China.
