When I moved to Shoreditch I had nothing but a mattress. The walls were bare, but we filled it with life. Forget glossy showrooms, so we bartered with old dealers. One mate found a sofa in Hackney. It felt like Shoreditch, but that’s what gave it soul. Funky retro seating has character, and we don’t need polish, we need real. I’ve hosted ten people on one sagging retro sofa, and the sofa was another character in the story.

Every warehouse flat tells the same story, and Smithers down in Shoreditch knows it. My flatmate dragged me into Smithers, and the accent chairs were bold and weird. we were broke students, accent chair funky but everyone fights to sit in it. Ask around and you’ll hear it. it’s where life happens. Vintage pieces survive it. Flat-pack won’t last a term, but retro lasts. every dent becomes part of the flat. After exams and [http://wiki.abh.pt/index.php?title=Answers_About_Furniture luxury sofas] chaos, the broken toaster doesn’t matter, but that funky accent chair is legend.

If you find yourself in a Shoreditch flat, skip the flat-pack rubbish. Take home something with scars, and let it shout Shoreditch every time you sit. | |||
