Honestly, I don’t mind. The movie seems purely designed to make money and never would have happened had it stuck to the actual board game roots. (You’d be hard pressed to make a Monopoly movie too these days without a sequoia in Marvin Gardens breeding a zombie infection.) Video games are amazing and an important part of my life. That said video games are also really dumb. Ludonarrative dissonance is a popular term when it comes to criticizing a game. It basically boils down to a disconnection between a game’s narrative and the gameplay. For example, let’s say you’re a protagonist trapped in a yard surrounded by a chained fence and a locked door. In reality, one could simply climb that fence, but because that gameplay mechanic is not implemented for players, they have to find a key or device to open it. It can be frustrating, but games cannot adhere to the laws governed by our reality. If someone could create an experience like that where anything is possible, but also follow simple principles like not being able to heal several shotgun blasts to the chest via an herb would be a wondrous stroke of programming genius, but not necessarily <br><br> <br>What a week for Double Fine ! First, Mojang's Marcus "Notch" Persson offered to personally fund Psychonauts 2 , then the Double Fine Adventure Kickstarter shattered records and racked up over a million dollars in less than 24 hours. As I write this, the total funds pledged stand at over $1.5 million -- a fairly staggering figure that is, by Tim Schafer's own admission (via his ever entertaining @ TimOfLegend twitter feed), greater than the budget for either Day of the Tentacle (which Schafer estimates was "like 600k") or the just-released Double Fine Happy Action Theat<br><br> <br>Of the three protagonists of the game, Franklin is the most well-adjusted. Given that he was primarily raised by his grandparents until they died and then cared for by his aunt, one might think he'd end up far worse. Compared to the thugs he meets through the game, Frank is actually an honest, caring, genuine guy. Of course, he's also an absolute savage, who racks up quite a body count over the course of the game, killing cops, other gang members, and anyone else who gets in his way. Franklin's level of savagery is very much based on player input, however. If he chooses "option 3" at the end, and keeps Trevor and Michael alive, then he isn't very savage at all, and demonstrates true loyalty to his friends, but if he kills either one, that's savage betra<br><br> <br>A week before E3, and more than halfway through its Kickstarter campaign to raise $1.35 million, Paul Caporicci, CEO and founder of Precursor Games, canceled the Kickstarter - which hadn't even crossed the 10% mark - and posted a message starting they're postponing the Kickstarter and will relaunch later with "new developments." We don't know the real reason behind the change, but part of the reasons was that they likely weren't going to meet the funding goal and wouldn't have raised any money this way. Part of the issue is the involvement of Denis Dyack and the resulting confusion of the studio's relationship to Silicon Knights, and the lack of clarity surrounding what the game would offer.
