1. iRobot S8

This smart robot mop and vacuum combo is an excellent choice for many households. It is able to vacuum and mop well and is extremely navigable using both GPS and laser sensors, and has a wide range of controls and features available via the app. It also has a handy feature that lets you add cleaning zones to certain areas that need extra attention and Keep Out zones where you do not want it to be. It also receives software updates, similar to all Roomba products, that make it better over time.

It's expensive however, it's also among the most advanced robot vacuums ZDNet has tested. It's equipped with a powerful battery that can vacuum a large home in under two hours. It can switch between mopping and vacuuming at the touch of one button. And unlike other self-emptying robotics that require you to empty the dust bin after each run, it automatically emptys into a larger waste container above its charging dock.

It also has a number of other features, such as intelligent obstacle avoidance that uses a camera along with processor-powered smarts to recognize obstacles. It's not often tripped or stuck during a cleaning process. In my tests it was the most effective at avoiding objects such as power cables. It's not as reliable in detecting pet waste or other hazards.

2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

Although Anker-owned Eufy has made an impact in budget bagless robot vacuum vacuums, it hasn't previously offered an all-in-one model that can also mop. The X8 Hybrid is a new model that comes with a variety of features that are advanced and is able to compete with more expensive models.

Eufy's main selling point with this device is its laser navigation. The X8 makes use of a laser mapping system that is more precise than the previous Eufy devices. It takes less time to build an accurate map of your home. It also has the ability to store multiple maps. This is ideal for multi-floored homes.

The X8 is a decent vacuum cleaner on bare floors. It is able to easily throw debris through the side brushes and into its 400ml dustbin. The X8's tyres, despite their circular shape, are efficient in grabbing corners and edges. Our tests showed that it was able to remove 90 percent of the fur from hard floors.

There's a mopping mode that utilizes the same water tank as the vacuuming. While this is a good option for loose spills but you cannot control how much water it uses and this will reduce its effectiveness for more severe staining. It does, however, do an excellent job of picking up pet hair, and has a higher pickup rate than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

The company is known for its quiet home appliances, Miele's RX2 robot vacuum has excellent cleaning power, gorgeous design and great navigation. However, it does have some operational issues that keep it from ranking as the top overall smart commercial robot vacuum vacuum.

Like the latest models from iRobot and models, the RX2 features a dual-sensor mapping system that utilizes the LIDAR sensor to map an area and three 3D scanning cameras to detect and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real-time. After the room has been defined, you can assign virtual no-go zones and sections that you would like to be the robot. You can also manually change cleaning modes, initiate a manual clean or watch live feeds from the cameras onboard from the main screen.

The RX2 has superior sensors that can detect furniture and other obstructions in a flash. And its sweeping and suction power are top-notch, picking up surface litter from medium-pile carpeting and embedded dust on floors that are unfinished. However, it's not exactly the most flexible robot available. It's not the most efficient climber and has issues with metal threshold transition strips.

A lot of people purchase a robotic vacuum to enjoy the convenience of setting a schedule on an app and then forgetting about it for weeks at an time. But it's important that a machine can get the job done and that's why our ZDNet staff tested and reviewed several of the most well-known models to help you find the perfect one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This budget robovac that looks like any other, but has a few more features and a better performance. Its smart mapping system creates 2D and 3D maps of your home and uses those to navigate around obstacles and avoid them. It can even detect common obstacles like furniture legs and power cords in real-time. This combination of sensors along with a bump detector, and an infrared sensor to keep the vacuum off steps makes it one our most flexible vacuums.

In our tests, it was able to moved over large shag rug and didn't end up stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigation abilities were also impressive. Its composite score for flooring and carpet was higher than the competition, and it picked up 98.5% of dirt and embedded dog hair that we tested in our lab samples.

The controls are more basic than the competition; there's an oblong cleaning button at the top and you can start it from the app or via voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also create a schedule for weekly or daily cleaning, set no-go zones, and view the history of its cleaning. Ion is clad in a smart dark gray plastic that is both attractive and beautiful in your home. Its rear dust bin is easy to empty and cleaning the filter is just as simple.

5. Eufy 11S

If you're looking for a basic robotic vacuum that is simple and has no frills for a reasonable cost, the Eufy11S could be a good choice. It isn't equipped with some of the smart features, such as digital mapping and commercial robot vacuum Alexa integration, which are found in higher-end models, but if you don't need those functions you can save cost with this model.

This robot is very easy to install and use. It doesn't require smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However, it does come with a remote control which lets you choose between various modes and adjust the suction level. It also allows you to manually take the robovac off during scheduled cleaning.

In our tests, we found that the 11S was extremely efficient in removing dirt and fur from hard floors and low-pile carpets. Its slim profile made it easier to get under furniture and other items that some of the more bulkier robots were unable to reach. Like other robots, the 11S will suck up some objects like cords, drawstrings on hoodies, and cat toys. The Roomba is iRobot's flagship robot vacuum. It's pricey but it's an excellent performer and is arguably the most sophisticated robot vacuum you can purchase. Its self navigation and environmental mapping are a wonder to behold. It is more sophisticated in its automation than the majority of its competitors, such as the capability to set up virtual boundary markers with its mobile application. It's a capable robot vacuum, even if its app is a bit sluggish and the 980 spins out when it comes across cables.

One thing we love about the 980 is that it uses its iAdapt 2.0 navigation sensors and its visual simultaneous mapping and localisation technology (or vSLAM) to remember the floor plan of your home. It will use this data to create a consistent and efficient cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a more efficient vacuum cleaner than the majority of high-end robots.

Other features of the 980 include two multi-surface rubber brushes which grab dirt from hard floors and carpet and the spinning brush that sweeps debris into the robotic vacuum's bin. Its floor tracking sensors aid it navigate between furniture and around edges, while Cliff Detect helps to prevent the Roomba from falling down stairs. It will also return to the base station for simple recharging in between sessions. The bin capacity and the battery life of the 980 aren't as good as other robot vacuums.
