There's still a long way to go, but it aims to end the disposal of toxic batteries at landfill sites and recover valuable elements that are in limited supply: copper, cobalt, nickel, manganese and the so-called metal of the decade, Pkv Games lithium.

"In some ways Intel is the biggest software company that you've never heard of," said Nick McKeown, who leads Intel´s Network and Edge group, adding that there are over 20,000 software developers at Intel.

"We recognise this has presented issues for the recycling industry as it scales up and adjusts to a role in product stewardship with its increased focus on transparency and accountability," he wrote in a report on the scheme's first six months of operation.

The scheme is focused on making it ultra-convenient for Australian consumers to recycle batteries and drastically reduce the estimated 90 per cent of batteries that wound up in landfill before the scheme began.

The inquiry found the company had a culture of "not being truthful with the regulator, not taking their responsibilities around gambling harm and money laundering as seriously as they should," she said.

Since 2021, both Star and larger rival Crown Resorts, recently bought by Blackstone Inc, have been deemed unfit for a gambling licence in every state in which they operate, although neither company has so far been prohibited from operating in any jurisdiction.

The Queensland inquiry found Star concealed A$55 million in gambling payments by Chinese nationals by characterising them as hotel fees, breaching Chinese gambling restrictions and "deliberately misleading" Star's bank, National Australia Bank Ltd.

As lockdowns made a crime of many forms of socialising, gambling became more attractive among "socially isolated or bored" young men, said Rebecca Jenkinson, executive manager of the Australian Gambling Research Centre.

"This growth is also leading to concerns about the impact of new energy systems on the long-term availability of resources and the economic and environmental impacts of the extraction and use of critical metals and other elements.

After decades of gambling deregulation, governments are cautious about reversing course, given tax revenue and industry lobbying, even amid public concern about a habit that strips voters of A$25 billion per year - or A$1,000 per person, more than double the United States.

For Star, the Queensland finding is especially bruising because the company has staked its future on a A$3.6 billion ($2.3 billion) casino development in state capital Brisbane, which is set to open in 2023.

The Premier League's overseas fees were split equally between the 20 clubs until 2019, when a merit-based element was introduced, but performance-related payments only account for £77m of the £1.06bn paid out to the clubs last season.

"Star embarked on a program of literally having a one-eyed focus on profit," Queensland Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman told reporters, adding she would prepare a "show cause" notice, forcing Star to justify why it should be allowed to keep its licence.

In two of the three other states where the government has found the operator of an established casino unfit for a licence, it has allowed the company to keep taking bets under supervision. The third, home to Star's Sydney casino, is yet to make a decision.

SYDNEY, Sept 29 (Reuters) - For Rhys Wareham, a coffee industry technician from Sydney, the start of COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020 did not just mean staying home, but having to stop visiting the pub every afternoon to gamble on pkv Poker machines.

SYDNEY, Oct 6 (Reuters) - Australia's Queensland state declared casino operator Star Entertainment Ltd unsuitable for a gambling licence on Thursday after an inquiry found it concealed illegal Chinese wagering payments and lured problem gamblers from interstate.

Footage from the match showed bizarre behavior from Lew, which some fans say is evidence of a cheating scheme which would have required her to work with another person monitoring the live broadcast of the game, which reveals each player's 'hole cards' that are not visible to the others at the table.

Sept 27 (Reuters) - Intel Corp plans to expand the Intel Developer Cloud to allow customers to try a range of new chips before they hit the market, a move it hopes will lure more application developers to use its processors, the company said on Tuesday.

Gamblers' loss on poker machines was A$11.4 billion in 2021, shrinking A$1.1 billion or 17% from 2019, the year before lockdowns began, showed data from Monash University's School of Public Health & Preventive Medicine.
