Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. They also boost extra bonuses such as damage from PvE and crit chance.

For instance an item with the upgrade template that is ending in % will suffer an attack damage of 3% each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

Item upgrading costs crests and the current level of the item. The cost increases as the item's level increases.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, weapons and armor to provide them with a boost in stats or add a bonus effect. These can be obtained by making crafts, buying from vendors or trading with other players, or looting. Certain upgrades also come with special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be used on equipment that has a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue before the component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and enrichments are a kind of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary or Ascended equipment, as well as some non-ascended items. Infusions and enrichments can be obtained by salvaging equipment that is ascended or completing a mission in the Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it is used on (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' is changed to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades increase an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, allowing players to make stronger versions of the equipment with fewer Upgrade Crystals than would be required to reach the same level of upgrade through normal methods.

A 'boost' upgrade can alter the attack or defense attributes of the weapon or armor. After the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist, these upgrades can be made at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades can be obtained by purchasing them in the cash shop or getting them from enemies while upgrading other equipment.

Each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher tier version of the item will be dropped in the next reset. This gives players an incentive to upgrade their equipment even if they are unsure how much it can be improved upon a reset.

The process of upgrading an item can be expensive and it's possible that the item will eventually become obsolete or even break in the event that the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed if the upgrade fails. This is mitigated by the availability of cash shop items that can double or even eliminate chance of failure, as well as some upgrades that provide the benefit of being reinserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to upgrade the Paragon Board by placing them in sockets that are specifically designed for. Glyphs buff the power of all nodes in the area around them as well as existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in numerous ways. We recommend upgrading them as quickly as possible up to 15 levels.

It is commonplace to see in the endgame that placing Glyphs is the Best item upgrader method to upgrade your equipment. They are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded to level 15 and give an enormous boost to your power on the Paragon Board.

The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced, but Glyphs are the only upgrade component that can be removed and put back in place without restriction. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires the use of a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and then re-install.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it from your inventory. You can replace it with a Glyph that is the same or higher rank to increase the value of the Glyph.

Glyphs are available in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of an Gem Store bundle or purchase, with certain unlimited-use tools, and during Faction Crypt Raids. Each Faction Crypt will drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

Once you have the desired Glyphs, you will need to place them on your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a special bonus that boosts the stats of a particular set of nodes within a radius around the Glyph. It could be +40 for one of your primary stats or +25 for two of your secondary stats based on the Glyph.

Utilizing the Glyph will boost all nodes that are connected to it, so it is recommended to position your Glyphs near the most important nodes of the Graph to maximize the impact. For example that a Druid should try to position their Glyphs near their primary damage nodes but you should also consider placing them near critical damage nodes, too.

Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to improve the performance of specific items by putting upgraded components into them. This is also known as "upping". Every upgradeable item has an amount that determines its upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum of ilvl 385. Each level requires a different number of components to be reached and the costs for upgrading increase as the item is advanced in level.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient can be obtained by making Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or obtained from NPCs. Each Upgrade Recipe that is completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used for upgrading an item. Once enough points are earned you will be able to claim the upgrade and also receive the bonuses.

When an item level upgrade is upgraded by a player, the base item is replaced with a different item of the same type. This means that the same armor piece will get a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will also have a unique bonus. This can be a disadvantage in that it could make the item more expensive if you do not need it.

If the player has enough tokens they can roll item upgrades. The item will be replaced by an entirely new item that has a level 1 basis and completely different bonuses. This can be useful, but shouldn't be done often as it can be a waste of resources.

Certain upgrades can be rerolled many times, increasing their value and allowing the player to customize their gear. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it gives an increase in power if the player continuously enters or leaves the water. It is possible to upgrade it several times, each time raising the maximum roll by an increment of 10. This item can be very useful in PvP battles, since a perfectly rolled version of it can be worth between 20 and 50 times its value if it is not upgraded.

Requirements

The ability to upgrade items allows players to increase the level of their available equipment - weapons, armor, and trinkets above ilvl 385--by providing the appropriate items and currencies to an NPC who upgrades items. Upgrading armor set pieces will also boost the defense base of that piece, while upgrading weapon items will increase the base damage as well as the required strength and dexterity to meet the upgraded equipment's requirements.

All items are upgradeable up to five times, except for hero equipment, which is able to be upgraded eight times. Every time you upgrade an object, it has a chance of failing. The rate of failure increases as you move beyond the maximum number. Failures will cause the item to return to its original state which means that the player has to purchase more items than if they stopped upgrading after the maximum amount.

If an item does not upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it gained, such as crit chance damage to attack, other effects (such as a higher healing rate over time, or the speed of reloading). However, the user can still continue to use the weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that when a weapon gains an increase in crit chance it will be applied before any increase in attack damage. A new attribute called Slots is now added to the item definition and the value is calculated each time an upgrade is made.

The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item is determined on the rarity rating and number of upgrade slots. The cost for upgrading non-premium items is equal to the base value of the upgrade--for instance, a standard equipment item could have five upgrades with a cost of 25600 Technology Points 4x Quality Improvement Opportunity. Hero grade items have a lower cost per upgrade.

Premium items have different upgrade requirements than standard gear--for instance, they may require fewer sowels, but they will require more minerals and erons. Players will still have to bring every piece of gear they wish to upgrade to the NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine. Each upgrade to equipment will require different amounts of upgrade ingredients in addition to the cost listed above.
